Marine Broker Wanted
Wider Auckland Area
If you are a successful and self motivated sales professional, with significant experience with yachts (sail or power) and a keen desire to change your lifestyle, you could be the person we are looking for.
What is a Marine Broker?
Your role as a marine broker will combine many disciplines. Unlike agents in other industries, the marine broker will see a transaction through from start to finish - You will fill the roles of photographer, publicist, printer, negotiator, conveyancer, banker, taxi driver, private detective, carpet layer, typist, deck hand or skipper, researcher, valuer, database technician, receptionist, and coffee maker, to name but a few. You will be self employed and contracted to Nautilus Marine Ltd. Payment will be 100% commission based using a structure that is both competitive and recognises superior performance.
You will often called upon to provide advice to buyers and sellers which must be based on a thorough knowledge, gained from extensive personal experience. You will help buyers identify boats suitable to their needs, give guidance to sellers on pricing, and on where and how best to offer their boats for sale. Your marketing role will involve preparing accurate details of the vessels you list, often through taking photographs and drawing sketches, taking inventory lists and making sure the information available is both factual and complete.
At sale time, you will act as negotiator to help both parties arrive at mutually acceptable terms, which will be secured by a BIA recognised Sales & Purchase Agreement which is fair and binding on both parties. You will get to know the pitfalls and the points that must be properly covered to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts. Then you will arrange sea trials, coordinate structural and mechanical surveys, arrange slipping times, and where necessary, negotiate revised terms when appropriate.
What will Nautilus provide?
Nautilus will provide the direction, infrastructure and training which will enable you to become a successful marine broker. Mike Ward, the principal of Nautilus Marine is the current chairman of the Marine Industry Association of New Zealand Inc (MIA) Marine Brokers Group. He also fills the role of trainer and assessor for the recently introduced NZQA approved National Certificate in Marine Sales & Services (Boat Sales & Brokerage). You will be encouraged to work towards attaining this qualification which is expected to take around three years to complete.
What will you need?
You will need a good clean car (and a clean driving record!), Coastguard's Boatmaster qualification (or be studying towards it!), a cell phone, computer with access to the internet (and the skills required to drive it!), a good (preferably digital) camera, and plenty of enthusiasm. You will be well spoken, with an unimpeachable sense of fair play and ethics. You will be a team player who gets on well with others even in the most trying of circumstances. Needless to say, you should have a better than passing knowledge of boats and boating.
If this sounds like YOU,
Call Mike Ward today to discuss your new career.
